Ottawa Contra is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization in Canada’s national capital, Ottawa. The Dance Committee organizes contra dances, our Hey Fever! contra dance weekend, Family Dances, and more! Our volunteer committee sets these up, and gets supported by other volunteers who help out at dances and other events.

Contra Dances

Our contra dances always have live bands and are lead by a caller. Each dance is preceded by a brief lesson. Everyone is welcome at our dances regardless of age and experience, and beginners are always welcome. We aim to provide affordable, vibrant, and energetic contra dances that are fun, friendly, and inclusive.

Musicians and Callers

We offer dances with a variety of high quality local and visiting musicians and callers. We try to ensure that all of our musicians and callers have a positive experience when they perform at our dances.

Special Events

We have special events at times, to strengthen our community, such as picnics, potlucks, and after-dance get togethers. We also try to host extra dances, at times, such as afternoon ones, or waltz sessions.
